Maternity services

Maternity services in too many of our hospitals are struggling and in some cases are nowhere near as safe as they should be. That is the unassailable fact underlined not just by AvMA and the families we work with, but reports by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the Morecambe Bay inquiry, the Independent Review into Shrewsbury and Telford maternity services, and there are ongoing reviews into East Kent maternity services and by the Health and Social Care Select Committee into maternity services as a whole. Yet we are still awaiting implementation of recommendations made my the Morecambe Bay inquiry.

We are calling for a special committee to be established to ensure that recommendations from the various reviews are actually implemented, and immediate action to be taken where this is already indicated.
