  • Scottish government legislates for Duty of Candour

    The Scottish Government has published a Health Bill including provision for a statutory duty of candour.  This follows a consultation last year following years of campaigning North and South of the border by AvMA, and the recent introduction of a statutory duty of candour in England.

  • AvMA Response to Department of Health’s “Freedom to speak up proposals”

    AvMA has submitted its response to consultation held by the Department of Health on its proposals for taking forward the “Freedom to Speak Up” proposals made by Sir Robert Francis last year.  AvMA has made further suggestions for supporting and protecting staff who raise concerns and treating whistleblowers fairly.

  • Government plans to water down the Duty of Candour for primary care and private healthcare

    AvMA will today make a public demand for the Government to change controversial plans to water down the statutory Duty of Candour that will apply to providers of NHS primary care (GPs, dentists and pharmacists) and in private healthcare. Read full Press Release.
