Dr Roderick Mackenzie

We are pleased to announce our opening plenary session. Dr Roderick Mackenzie, Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine & Clinical Director of the Major Trauma Centre, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge will speak on Emergency Medicine. covering the following:-
• The work of the air ambulance, paramedic and ambulance technicians
• How the call centre operates and the questions that are asked
• The importance of being prepared with the correct equipment
• The importance of pre-hospital care
• Failure to preliminary diagnose, treat and triage correctly
• Failure to expedite hospital transfer to the correct centre and the failure to provide pain medication
• The importance of a timely transfer

Dr Mackenzie is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine and the Clinical Director of the Major Trauma Centre at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. He is also the Chairman of the Intercollegiate Board for Training in Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine, an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s pre-hospital examinations and an active flight physician with MAGPAS Air Ambulance.

His 25 years experience in the delivery of emergency medical care, both in and out of hospital, has been combined with a specialist interest in human factors, team resource management and simulator-based training in pre-hospital critical care. His academic interests include trauma system development and injury prevention and control.
